GGQ#1
Worried more about the barbell position than I ever have, not sure how much it affected my pacing being off, but it definitely affected something. Pacing definitely got off from my plan, but I didn’t panic and did not want to speed up to catch up. Should have got my heart rate up a little more in warm up. Also, back got lit up a little more than I anticipated towards the end of the 185. Felt comfortable in the 225, I think that’s when I actually relaxed. At this point I think I was planning one rep every 20 seconds. After watching my video, lifts looked much easier than they felt, this is something I must remember and will allow me to push the limits a little more and rely on my technique to help me through times like this.Think most of my burpees were around 5 sec/rep pace until the set with 225, as I wanted to slow down and make sure I nailed the reps at 275

Every 5 min x 5 sets

Row 250m

8 C2B

12 WB

AB 10 cals

8 toes to bar

12 box jump overs @ 20in (tap on top)

3:05 – 3:02 – 3:31 – 3:28 – 4:02

I drastically underestimated the potency of this training piece.

Simple notes, c2b felt better today, but I was expending a ton of energy on them. This caused a major breakdown in round 3, and effected me in round 4, not to mention I started babying my hand. Round 5, it was more hand related that I had to do 5-1-1-1 on c2b

A – Front Squat x 1/Split jerk x 1 – tough single but not maximal
275
Was kind of tough, not sure how much heavier I could’ve gone but there was definitely more there!
+
Did not completely pay major attention to detail, went with a thuster-jerk on all sets except for one rep at 225.

3 sets, start a set every 3 min
5 squat clean thrusters (singles) @ 135lbs
6 bar over burpees
20 sec AB @ 85-90%
1:01 – :59 – :59
+
3 sets, start a set every 3:30 min
4 squat clean thrusters (singles) @ 185lbs

A – Banded strict HSPU – 16 sets of 4, not for time, rest as needed
Done – around set 12/13 was when these started getting really challenging
B – OHS @ 22X1 tempo x 2, rest 2 min x 5 sets
210-220-230-245-260
Felt really freaking good here. Most I have OHS in a long time. Pretty stoked about this. The 260 felt better than the 245, probable rested closer to 3 minutes than 2, but technically they were 2 extra sets after a set at 185 and 205, I wasn’t sure how high I could go based on last week’s numbers and feel.
+
For time
Run 800m (4:07)
50 unbroken wallballs
Run 600m (9:38)
30 unbroken wallballs
Run 400m (13:38)
15 unbroken wallballs
14:20

We can use the term run loosely after the set of 50 wall balls. The distance for the 600 is the only distance I have in question, + or -. On the set of 50, felt the upper body fatigue around 35, in the 30’s around 22/23, and 15’s felt strong. Fatigue was more trap based. Temp at time of session was only 103.

A – Find a tough power snatch with good form
195
Just barely missed 200, moved my foot position closer to the bar in my set up, made a huge difference in bar position coming off the ground. Felt this happen as I was warming up and missed a rep @ 185, that I knew I should’ve had and this was the adjustment I made. I have only hit 200 and 205 a handful of times, so I’m excited for the chance of improving this over the next few months just on position and economy of movement.
B – Power snatch cluster @ 85% of A – 1.1.1 x 3, rest 15-20 sec/2 min
165
C – Dbl KB front rack squats @ 32X1 tempo x 6, rest 2 min x 4
62 across. Set #3 is when I felt how tough the negative and the hold in the bottom was. Was going to increase load until that one. Difficulty felt more in the shoulders and back holding a good rack position.
D – 50 bar over burpees for time
3:29
Limiter from going faster here was muscle fatigue in my legs, breathing was high but I was completely comfortable with it.

15-20 min shoulder mobility

A – 10 MU for time, rest walk 5-6 min x 3

1:19 – 4/3/2/1 – wanted to hang on for the last set of 3 but positioning just didn’t feel right coming out of rep 9.

1:15 – 3/3/3/1 – this was my original plan, got a little sloppy with mechanics in the middle towards the end, didn’t focus on staying nice and hollow. Will do more best swings in warm up next time

DNF – felt skin separate on rep 3, so I called it, which the blister popped later in the rig dip work. I was a little upset because I had a new plan that I wanted to try out, I was going to do sets of 2’s and start a set every 15 seconds.
B1 – DB batwing row x 6/side (opposite arm remains flexed), rest 90 sec

55 x 3, 60 x 1, 65 x 1 (not as crisp here)

B2 – Close grip bench press x 12, rest 90 sec x 5

155 x 1, 165 x 2, 275 x 2 (really wanted to do s set at 185 but was by myself in the gym so no spotter for safety

D – Ring dips @ 22X2 tempo x 6-8 + 20 sec ring support hold, rest 3 min x 4

6’s across, first 3 sets of 20 second holds were better than last weeks 15 seconds, but the last set was a struggle, broke at 15 seconds, elbows were bending shoulders were internally rotating, wasn’t pretty. Did 10 more seconds for good measure

E – Bike 2000m @ same pace as last week, start a set every 5 min x 4

AMslept good just not long enough.
Row 28 min @ 1:55-2:00/500m pace, hop off every 4 min to do 5 overhead squats @ 95lbs

This morning was a test of resilience, focus, faith and trust. For starters I was inconsistent with pacing (didn’t use my normal rower) pace would jump from 1:53/1:55 to 2:00/2:02. This test my focus for sure, my back was right past half way so I had to trust myself that I was going to be ok. Hips tightened up towards the end, but just positive and pushed the last 10 when I just wanted to stop and close my eyes. Didn’t move fast on the OHS, squatted with a steady tempo focusing on using the glutes.

+

20 min hip/hamstring mobility
Spent more time on my hip flexors more than hammies.

PM

A – Snatch – tough single

210
B – Clean and jerk – tough single

280
Back was a little tired after this am, just started feeling general fatigue in the latter lifts of the snatch, but did not feel to effect good positioning off of the ground so was happy about that. Didn’t have anything left in the tank for the snatch today but the c&j could’ve maybe grinded out one more lift. The last lift in the video, my normal footwork was a little off on the jerk making it harder than it should’ve been. Snatch felt decent today and clean just felt really slow.
C – Back Squat – Find a 10RM

285

Definitely more in the tank here not sure how much though m, but I know this is normally a one and done attempt.

PAILS/RAILS overhead shoulder flexion and sleeper stretch – 90 sec – 10 sec @ 80% – 45 sec – 10 sec @ 80% (1 time through for each arm/stretch)
+
TGU – 32 alternating reps not for time @ 53lbs
Today was the first day of these that I felt I could move through them rather “quickly” with high efficiency and mechanics
+
For time, 12-9-6
Deadlifts @ 275lbs
Bar over burpees
3:55
+ (rest 10 min)
For time, 21-15-9
Power cleans @ 135lbs
AB cals
7:59

General notes on today and the two pieces as a whole. For starters, the temperature at the time of my training was 110 degrees. Definitely played a role, in the first piece i knew I needed to be fast but conservative as temp would factor in. Deadlifts felt challenging but I was happy that even when I was breathing high I still picked up the barbell right away and moved it well. The burpees were a bitch. I tried to stay on my tempo and not sure where I was relative to that. But i was excited to get to the deadlifts.

The cleans and AB, I did not feel fully recovered, started out with singles all the way, after the first set on the AB I felt a lot better, 15 were sinlges until the last 3 which almost felt like a mistake, and the last set did 1, and then 8 tng at this point the AB felt like it helped me recover to improve my feel, breathing and overall economy of movement on the cleans

And also for the record, tomorrow is supposed to be 117, thankfully PM is only lifting heavy shit.

Wednesday – 6/1/2016 – TTT

forgot to mention that yesterday I did the burpee as bar facing. Also had a really poor night sleep last night.

A – Banded strict HSPU – 12 sets of 4, not for time, rest as needed
Got tough around set 6-7
B – OHS @ 22X1 tempo x 3, rest 2 min x 5 sets
185-195-205-215-22-230
Went for 235, or so I thought, had a 5 plate on the left side and not the right, lost it in the bottom as the right arm collapsed.
+
For time, 30-20-10
OHS @ 95lbs
Row cals
7:11
All OHS done unbroken, round of 30 cals was survival, picked it up in the 20’s around a 1100-1200 kcals/hr pace, round of 10 was about 1400 kcals/hr
+ (rest as needed)
For time, 50-30-10
Wallballs
Chin over bar pullups
9:12 (pretty sure)
Set of 50 – 25/15/10 same for both wall ball and pull up
Set of 30 – 15/15 for wall ball – pull ups unbroken, went for it, might have paid for it, but wanted to prove I could do it

Thought about doing this one in a hole other session, but assumed this wasn’t the rest as needed you were referring too, lol.
